Democrats kick a sleeping bear

Democrats had their way in the election.
They have their way in creating legislation.
They merely have to go about their business doing what they have always wanted to do.
Now, for what reason I cannot imagine, Obama and the DNC are going on the offensive against Rush Limbaugh. Limbaugh's influence was drifting downward, but the Democrats could not leave well-enough alone. They have whacked the beehive and kicked a sleeping bear. The Democrats have called attention to Limbaugh and now his audience will likely grow due to those tuning in to see what all the fuss is about. Limbaugh has now challenged Obama to a debate of the issues, but Obama would be foolish to accept such a win-win situation for Limbaugh.

I have been watching this too. They are trying to put Limbaugh as the face of the GOP...trying to make every one think he is their leader, when in reality, he isn't a politician at all...he is a talk show host and a leader of the Right Conservative movement in the United states. That doesn't make him the leader of the GOP. And since he has said things like "I hope President Obama fails" with further explanation that went unaired of "I hope that President Obama's liberal agenda fails" they are trying to paint him as if the GOP is saying that they hope President Obama fails. Well...yea...he does hope he fails so that his liberal/socialist agenda fails. So the liberals are attacking him for his statements....and of course bringing him to light in a much bigger way than I think they want to put him. I agree with you...they did wake a sleeping bear. They shouldn't have been so stupid. He is a pompus, conceited bear too...so he is probably loving all the attention! But he makes some pretty fine points on behalf of the conservative movement...and I agree with him a good part of the time.

I hope that the bear, the conservative movement doesn't just go back into hibernation.

I'm glad you see it that way. Republicans have a weakness in that they want to be liked by everyone without giving up their conservative principles. So Republicans (e.g. Michael Steele, recently) often denounce Limbaugh to get brownie points from the MSM, when in reality, Limbaugh reflects their core beliefs and values. Limbaugh is purposely pompous and boastful because he knows it bothers liberals.

I am astounded at how differently we see things.

I watched some of the CPAC conference on CNN.
I watched nearly all of Newt Gingrinch and all of Ron Paul, some of Wayne La Pierre, and some of Rush Limbaugh.

I came away feeling all the more justified and determined in my socialist leanings.

I am astounded as well. We are both firmly convinced of the correctness of our respective positions, but I have gradually become fairly sangfroid (I hope I used the right word) about the huge gulf that lies between us.

sang froid can mean calm as in keep calm
(garder son sang froid); it can also mean cold blooded or in cold blood. I am not familiar with a usage that would give the idea of resigned to which it seems may be the meaning you are seeking.

Wish I could be of more help.

I mean "calm," I guess. In other words, I am not so uptight about our differences as I once was.

Neither am I, although some of my posts may not reflect it.

Principles really interest me, but in reality, I recognize that I get up and go to work everyday, come home and live my private life in virtually the exact same way regardless of Repub and Dem administrations.

I know the way I want to see our world and the greater world progress, but I realize that my prime responsibilities don't allow me much activist time.
I am (maybe too) content with that. That is why I enjoy our blog so much, it helps me to stay connected with intellectual thought processes when my everyday life doesn't leave much time for them.
My use of certain press articles in class serve the same pupose.
