The New Freedom of the Press

Only press that we like.
The Washington Times, The Dallas Morning News, and the NY Post have been barred from the Obama travel entourage. Their sin? They endorsed McCain. This is the authoritarian future that lies before us.

I don't know what the norm is, but I can imagine that not every paper requesting to be part of the entourage can be accommodated. It seems entirely normal to me that campaigns pick and choose those that are favorable. I rather imagine that McCain's campaign does the same thing. I can't imagine that they allow a writer from Mother Jones or The Nation a permanent spot in their press entourage. I'll bet, although I don't know, if a negative article is written by an 'accepted' paper, that paper will lose its access or at least its privileged access. I'll bet it's standard practice although I don't have time to research this.

Maybe you are right, but ones you mention are small- and mid-size publications. The Washington Times, et al. are major newspapers.
